"Of the vineyard owners of France, Prince Robert stands out both as the owner of two of the most celebrated names, as well as one of most artistically creative people in the business. Both Chateau Haut-Brion and Chateau La Mission Haut-Brion, are consistently the two top-rated Bordeaux vineyards in France.
Fluent in English, German and French, he was raised in Britain and then Luxembourg after his mother married Prince Charles of Luxembourg. His American great, great grandfather, Clarence Dillon, bought the vineyards in 1935, but young Robert started his career as a Hollywood screenwriter.
In 1997, as his family began to look at a successor for his grandfather, he moved back to run the family business. Calling himself “more of a manager” than a winemaker in a recent interview with Chopard magazine, he focuses on marketing. He recently renamed an unpronounceable wine (Bahans Haut Brion 2°Vin) as “Le Clarence de Haut-Brion.”
