Every now and again, a unique, useful or important story is published or featured in the general news media regarding innovations in the wine industry. We are on the hunt for special features on our favorite subject that may not be accessible through general search engines, and great articles that are worthy of reposting.

It has been said that when pairing wine with food that red wine goes well with red meat and that white wine pairs well with fish and poultry. However, this rule fails to acknowledge the complexity of ingredients that make up a dish, as well as the wide range of wines available.

It’s no surprise that we gravitate towards cool, crisp whites and chilled rosés during these warm summer months. Easy to drink and easy to enjoy, a wine’s quaffable nature is precisely what we’re after!

No one had to “invent” sparkling wine. Effervescence has always been a natural phenomenon, produced as a result of fermentation...

After a long drive, on May 19, 2011, Maralyn and I reached our central Missouri destination of Hermann. At our B&B, Hermann Hill Vineyard and Inn, when we entered our room and looked out, we were stunned by the scenic world below us. Even though we were two stories below the main floor of the Inn, we were still on top of a mountain sloping through vineyards to the valley...

I am often contacted by people representing various wine brands. They find me through my blog, or through articles I’ve written, or radio interviews I’ve done. Their question is simple, “Would I be willing to receive some samples and review the wines. “ Well…let me think on that for about 10 seconds…heck yes! I am always happy to give the wines a try, but only review them if I had something positive to say. I just don’t see the point in bashing a wine. Does that make me a wimpy reviewer? Nope. Not only might it be a wine that others will love, but what constructive purpose will my writing something negative about their wine serve?

One of the treats of visiting the Far Out Wineries group in Paso Robles, CA Wine Country is finding that one very special, family owned, small lot undiscovered gem of a winery. For me it was Le Cuvier Winery. Le Cuvier is a 3.400 case winery open to the public Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. for wine tasting and specialty food pairings. It is working towards becoming a winery that is open only to wine club members, so you best be making your way there soon. My 90 minute appointment reflected winemaker John Munch and general manager Mary Fox’s love of food and wine pairing. Assisted by wine club manager Tiani Bajema, we had a sit down tasting consisting of elegant wines and perfectly paired bites that I am not sure mere words can describe...

In 1968 I made my first excursion to Napa, CA and witnessed the fervor about the new winery called Mondavi. I was instantly hooked on Wine Country as a destination. Subsequently, working in the travel industry, I have brought many travel industry groups and companies to Napa to experience the culture and trappings of Wine Country.
In the late 90’s, I started spending more in-depth time in Sonoma County where my son and future daughter-in-law attended Sonoma State University. Point being, I have somewhat of a feel for both counties; and yes they are distinctly different. So, let me present my take on Wine Country. Both counties offer hospitality and a different feel, but both are genuinely real.

This home for your wine requires specific know-how to build. When the time comes to consult with your contractor about your new cellar, you first must arm yourself with the right questions. Ask how many climate controlled wine rooms have been built by the company. If the answer is “one or two…” you may want to opt for a company with more experience. Because this is home to your prized collection and because cellars are a huge investment, you need someone that really knows what they are doing.

I tend to go on overload when I walk into a wine store if I don’t have a “buy” list. Yes it can be fun to whirl and twirl my way through racks and racks of wine, but in the end I need to purchase some great wines and get on with my life. So I am thanking wine guru Natalie MacLean for her new wine app.

New Park Lane’s OneForOne Park Lane opened its doors to a host of celebrity guests, including Amber Le Bon, Alice Dellal, Sadie Frost, Jasmine Guinness, Jade Parfitt, Goga Ashkenazi, Lisa B, Suki Waterhouse and Tali Lennox. However, in a sign that London still has its fair share of affluent individuals, a record was broken with the most expensive bottle of Champagne ever purchased in London, being bought by an unknown European businessman.

This style of winemaking is the American answer to French Bordeaux blends. In the 1980’s, as Bordeaux blends grew increasingly popular at auction blocks, a group of American vintners collected to form the Meritage Association (est. 1988.) Creating wines with the same noble grapes as Bordeaux, the American style – now known as “Meritage” was formed. The origin of this term is important to address when determining the pronunciation...

Does it sound like crazy advice to say, “BUY A VINEYARD”? If so, I hope you’ll think again after I tell you what happened to me and my husband when we landed in Argentina for the first time.
A few years ago, we began our venture to retire overseas, and like many Americans who are searching for more, we had compiled our short list of potential countries. Mexico was number one because of its close proximity to the US, and as much as we smiled and said to each other, “Honey, this is it!” in our hearts, we silently knew it wasn’t Mexico, so we moved on.

A quarterly journal packed with true wine academia. The American Society for Enology and Viticulture (AJEV) was started by a group of California winemakers and researchers, publishing it's first stand-alone journal in 1950.
Today, the organization is the premier English language scientific research tool on the science of wine and grape growing... covering such subjects as microbiology, plant pathogenesis, wine and sensory chemistry, grape genetics and clonal evaluation, pest and disease control, and much more.

SANTA ROSA — Early indications of improved fourth-quarter sales of fine wine could partly offset significant declines in sales growth this year, and 2010 could bring some upswing for the segment as trade buyers place orders to maintain new, lower inventory levels, according to a report released today from Silicon Valley Bank’s Wine Division.

When an enterprising young man named James Christie opened his sales rooms in London in December 1766, his first auction consisted of the estate of a "deceased nobleman" containing "a large Quantity of Madeira and high Flavour'd Claret."

A $1 million wine book, weighing 30kg, is set to be released in the Spring of 2010. The Wine Opus will list the world’s top 100 wineries. That’s not a typo: $1 million. Because . . . every purchaser of the book will also receive a six-bottle case of wine from every one of the 100 wineries listed.
The book is published by Kraken Opus, which has previously launched extravagant works on fashion designer Vivienne Westwood, Indian cricket ace Sachin Tendulkar and Argentine footballer Diego Maradona.
Only 100 copies of the book will be made – 25 have already been pre-ordered, with a number of copies set aside for auction.

Where the Amazing Food Wine Company, which we covered a few years ago, created its wines for pairing with commonly enjoyed contemporary American foods—pizza, pasta, etc—Madeinmilan Wines has taken the opposite approach, focusing instead on a historical meal.

for search marketing is to create effective website “page names”. In addition to the
domain name you choose to host your website, your website page name choices
can have a big impact on how consumers find your site. Traditionally, website
page names were created by web programmers. Today, the process of naming
web pages should be in conjunction with your marketing department and web
