    Does it sound like crazy advice to say, “BUY A VINEYARD”?  If so, I hope you’ll think again after I tell you what happened to me and my husband when we landed in Argentina for the first time.

    A few years ago, we began our venture to retire overseas, and like many Americans who are searching for more, we had compiled our short list of potential countries. Mexico was number one because of its close proximity to the US, and as much as we smiled and said to each other, “Honey, this is it!” in our hearts, we silently knew it wasn’t Mexico, so we moved on.

     

A quarterly journal packed with true wine academia. The American Society for Enology and Viticulture (AJEV) was started by a group of California winemakers and researchers, publishing it's first stand-alone journal in 1950.

Today, the organization is the premier English language scientific research tool on the science of wine and grape growing... covering such subjects as microbiology, plant pathogenesis, wine and sensory chemistry, grape genetics and clonal evaluation, pest and disease control, and much more.

When an enterprising young man named James Christie opened his sales rooms in London in December 1766, his first auction consisted of the estate of a "deceased nobleman" containing "a large Quantity of Madeira and high Flavour'd Claret."

    A $1 million wine book, weighing 30kg, is set to be released in the Spring of 2010. The Wine Opus will list the world’s top 100 wineries. That’s not a typo: $1 million. Because . . . every purchaser of the book will also receive a six-bottle case of wine from every one of the 100 wineries listed.

    The book is published by Kraken Opus, which has previously launched extravagant works on fashion designer Vivienne Westwood, Indian cricket ace Sachin Tendulkar and Argentine footballer Diego Maradona.

    Only 100 copies of the book will be made – 25 have already been pre-ordered, with a number of copies set aside for auction.
